This thesis explores the representation of colonialism and Indigenous resistance in R.F. Kuang’s novel, Babel, through the critical lens of Martin Nakata’s Indigenous Standpoint Theory. By analyzing key passages from the text, the study reveals how Babel vividly portrays the lived experiences of colonial domination, including cultural alienation, epistemic violence, and structural exploitation, while simultaneously illustrating varied forms of Indigenous resistance. Nakata’s indigenous Standpoint Theory provides a nuanced framework for understanding the complex dynamics at the cultural interface, where Indigenous identities and knowledge are contested, suppressed, and asserted. This research highlights how colonial power operates not only through overt control but also through subtle mechanisms that marginalize Indigenous epistemologies and bodies. The thesis further demonstrates how resistance in Babel emerges as both embodied defiance and strategic collective action, challenging colonial hierarchies and reclaiming Indigenous agency. Ultimately, this study contributes to postcolonial and Indigenous scholarship by emphasizing the importance of centering Indigenous perspectives in literary analysis and knowledge production. The findings also offer theoretical and practical recommendations for advancing Indigenous epistemologies and decolonizing education, research, and cultural practices.
